im going on holiday to Marbella, Spain on early August this year and this fiesta is on…. any ideas whats involved?

Marbella used to be called ‘Salt City’…Salduba …when the Romans were there.
It was changed to Marbil-la by the Moors.

The current popularity of Marbella as a resort started with the breakdown of a Rolls-Royce car driven by a German prince in the area in the 1940s.

The old quarter is very pleasant and the beach is OK but the last time I was there, 18 months ago we had three days of torrential rain along the south coast of Spain and I spent one morning under the awning of an ice-cream and coffee parlour by the road along the beach front while the police 4×4 drove by every hour or so checking the floods. The hill leading down there from the town centre looked like a waterfall. There was nobody else in sight from the beach road apart from the severely over-worked Senorita in the parlour who had another coffee to make every forty minutes or so……..Escaping from Malaga’s equally heavy rain didn’t actually improve things for me for the weather but the lone company was excellent.
