I would like to hear from Native Spanish speakers. What do you think of this short story?

January 28, 2010 - 12:14 am 2 Comments

I enjoy writing short stories about my childhood in North Alabama. I write all of my short stories in Spanish and I would like to know what you think. This is a true story. Thanks for reading it.

How to stay energized and productive

January 27, 2010 - 11:31 am No Comments

A big setback when it comes to working is staying focused. It is too easy to get distracted by our surroundings that we often become less productive by falling prey to these traps. There is the internet, television, and music that slow down or work flow. If we cut them out of the equation however, we find that we lost interest and energy at a rapid pace. The best way to approach a work environment is to manage time. Find how productive you are and only focus on those hours rather than the whole eight hours of work. The rest of your time, spend it on yourself.

Best Hybrid SUVs

January 27, 2010 - 5:01 am No Comments

Consumer Reports has come up with a list of the best hybrid SUVs for 2010. Keep in mind that a hybrid SUV is not a bona fide SUV according to some people used to driving really big SUVs like Chevy Suburbans and such. Regardless, they are bigger than other hybrid cars.

Onward…

Leading the list is the Ford Escape 4-cylinder CVT, which is surprising to me because it’s a U.S. manufacturer. By the way, in case you didn’t know, “CVT” stands for “Continuously Variable Transmission.” Drivers of CVT – equipped vehicles enjoy better gas mileage from the CVT alone, smoother acceleration, quieter rides, and none of the other disadvantages associated with conventional 3 or 4-speed geared transmissions.

Next on the list is the Mazda Tribute 4-cyl CVT, followed by the Mercury Mariner 4-cyl CVT and the Ford Escape XLT V6.

Notice that the Ford Escape XLT has a V6 gasoline engine (along with the electric motor system like all hybrids). It’s interesting to note that all of the V6-equipped hybrids listed by Consumer Reports in the top ten, including the Mazda Tribute XLT and the Mercury Mariner XLT, were listed as getting 26 mpg overall (city plus highway averaged together) – all of them.

But 26 miles per gallon of gasoline for a mid-size SUV that has monster acceleration is not bad at all.

Fat at old Age

January 27, 2010 - 5:00 am No Comments

Everybody knows that our body goes through changes as we grow older and as we age the fat that is stored in our body is harder to get rid of. What happens is that our digestive system is like a machine in a non optimized state just because it is not new. Therefore our metabolism is slower then what it used to be. In this case if you select from those diets that work on burning the fat and not just the water in your body you should be able to wear your bathing suit this coming summer at the beach without being ashamed of your body.

Deal With Depression The Smart Way

January 26, 2010 - 4:58 pm No Comments

There are more reasons to be depressed today than ever. Luckily, however, there are also more effective ways to deal with depression today too.

One good way is to read about other folks who have had similar experiences (”case studies”) and how they dealt with it. You may just discover that they had problems so bad that it makes yours look like child’s play in comparison.

But nobody’s trying to diminish your problems or make light of them; no, everyone is different and the way people respond to life’s ups and downs is different for each person.

In any case, if you can find any similarities between your situation and someone else’s, you’ll have tendency to identify with them. At this point, you just may start to see things from their perspective and thus be able to look at your own situation in a new light.

This “new light” is the start of being able to escape your case of “the blues” and get on with life all the quicker than if you had to go it alone.

Go ahead, deal with depression the smart way.
